WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND?

Friends

(story submitted by Cassie, a Chestist)

Ever since I was young my friends have been my true family.  My friends are my family.  I feel like my friends are letting me down lately though.

Friendship is a responsibility.  Close friendships anyway.  I'm always there for my friends.  I always have been.  I always will be.  I don't feel like those who should be there for me are there the way I want them to be.  I want to be the person my friends call in the middle of the night.  I don't know who to call in the middle of the night and it makes me sad. {end story.}

What kind of friend are you?  What kind of friends are your friends?

    Like you, I try really hard to be a good friend. To remember what matters to them, to check in, to be available, to care and ask and listen. As I’ve gotten older I’ve found there’s a difference between old friends and close friends. It can be a hurtful lessen to learn. I hear you.

    I couldn’t get out of bed if it weren’t for my BFFs. They are my moon and stars and help me every day.

    My husband and I were just talking about this a couple of weeks ago. Now that we have a baby (8 months), it seems all we talk about is her and the people we spend time with all have kids and all we talk about is her and their kids. Our new friends have become friends less because we chose them and more because we’re all going through similar times of life. That gives us things to relate to but it seems more convenient than meaningful and lasting.

      A lot of my friendships started out that way. Now our kids’ calssmates parents are some of our closest friends. We vacation together, get together. I love them!
