I Cut Myself

We're guessing this was sent to us by you, one of our younger Chestists.  We're old enough here 2OOC HQ, that we don't recll cutting being anything anyone we knew gorwing up did.  Now it seems almost epidemic…whether it's physical cutting or emotional cutting.  Here's a story from one of you:

Every morning, i wake up feeling terrified.

I get scared.

I get worried something bad is going to happen.

I  feel invisible, and a waste of space. I guess i have gotten to an age where you start realizing things.

I cut myself, hoping that i will get attention. Obviously, not. After a counselor called from the school, i was a bit overwhelmed and worried that this was it. My mom was going to find out, and i was going to die.

On the bright side, i talked to a psychiatrist. Then from there, they told me that i needed extra help, so my mom took me to see a therapist.

I'm actually very thankful for all the support i have been getting. Although this is killing me inside, i know that this is making me stronger. {end story.}

We've got no questions for you this time.  All we want to say is that among the things we should all take away from this story is, in our opinion, that help helps. Yup, quote us on that.  Help helps.

Tallking about things helps.  If you're out there, reading this, and doing something – anything – to yourself that's hurtful, harmful, hateful.  Stop.  Please stop.  And talk with someone.  Anyone.  We've said it before, we'll say it again…but to quote the brilliant campaign of the same name, it gets better.  Really.

Let it get better for you.  Stop the self-hate and let the self-love begin (yea, we're getting all new-agey on you).  It's time.  Ok, we're stepping off our high horse now.  But we mean it.  We're here, others are here, if and when you want to talk to us.  {end of editorial}

    My sister was a cutter, as were like 3 of her friends.

    I could never understand the pleasure she got from it or the control she felt just because she could do it.

    I am so glad she doesn’t cut any more.

    I have worked with many teenagers who cut themselves. Almost all of them felt better after talking about it. Just like they wrote above, PLEASE SEEK HELP! There are lots of qualified people out there who know what will work for you. Also remember that feeling badly is not your fault, but it is on you to ask for help. It’s there. Find and use it.

    I don’t cut myself, but I do a lot do drugs and drink a lot. It dulls the pain for while, numbs me. I feel really badly after I come down or sober up, but then I don’t know what else to do, so i do it again.

      Hey, Anonymous, you are not alone. There are many people like you out here. Thanks for sharing what’s going on with you. Have you ever talked to your parents or a counselor? Have you tried any groups that help with substance abuse? Being part of a community that understands what you are doing and feeling can be especially effective with drug and alcohol abuse. Sounds like you are trying to understand what is going on. Take the next step and find people to help you. We appreciate your input. Eva
