The Dalai Lama, a Chestism

"Happiness is not something ready made. It comes from your own actions."
What action can you take right now? Right now? Big or small, we bet there's something. Come on, declare it and then make it so. X

I think about this all the time and wonder what I can do to help myself be happier because there’s just no way I’m as happy as it gets. The short answer is, I do not know what to do. I know my thoughts could be more pure (and I don’t mean I could think about sex less), but that so much of the conversation that takes place in my head just feeds my insecurities, stress and worry. So sometimes I think I know what I need to do I just do not know how to do it.

JAT, I totally know what that’s like. I think you just have to catch yourself inside yourself and be aware of what you’re thinking. A lot of it happens reflexively because we’ve been doing it for so long but if you become aware of the thought, you can usually stop the thought and look at where it came from. It takes practice (like everything), but the only way I know to beat the voice in your head is to become aware of it. It’s gotten better for me, I hope it does for you too.

Lucy, we think this – and you – are right on. When we become present to not being present…we become present. When we become aware that we’re not listening, we start listening. When we become aware that we’re having unproductive thoughts, and we all do, that’s the best time to stop them.
Thanks for adding to the conversation. XO

I think this is right (Dalai Lama’s prolly glad I agree with him
) but I think it’s also important to remember that happiness doesn’t come from inaction. It’s not just what we do that counts, it’s what we don’t do too.

Such a good point, Abby. And we bet His Holiness would think so too. Well said!

I need to be outdoors more. I always feel better after I exercise or take a walk outside. The beach. I need to go to the beach!

We hear you, Nat. There is something really healing and peaceful about being outside in a beautiful place. It’s also about taking time for yourself, isn’t it? Do it, and let us know how it went.
